Design: BR - Design Firm
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Cachaça Velho Chagas
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
Packaging Contents: Cachaça, Spirits
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass Bottle
Printing Process: Matte paper, Golden Foil, Silver Foil, Bronze Foil

Cachaça is a distilled spirit made from fermented sugarcane juice and the most popular spirit among distilled alcoholic beverages in Brazil.

Cachaça Velho Chagas is distilled in Santa Efigênia de Minas, a very small municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, in the Southeast region of Brazil, by a family that produces this drink for more than 70 years. Velho Chagas is a very traditional Brazilian Cachaça, result of years of expertise on the art of distilling and is exported worldwide.

The ornaments, the portrait of “Velho Chagas” and the typography are bespoke, were first hand drawn and secondly replicated in computer, giving uniqueness to the brand. The design aesthetics and print finishings, with golden foil on black matte paper, represent the premium characteristics of the product. The portrait of Boaventura Branquinho, himself the “Velho Chagas” is represented on the top of the label, with his typical colonial hat and white suit.

On the neck label, it is written “Genuinamente Brasileira”, in a reference to the origin. The “Premium Silver” is not aged in wooden barrels and that is why it is crystal clear.

We have opted to differentiate it from the “Premium Gold” essentially by the color, replacing the black background by white and the golden foil by two tons of silver foil.

Founder and Creative Director: Sophie Schott
Artistic Director: Florence Béziès
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Saint James
Location: Paris, France
Packaging Contents: Rum
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Cardboard
Printing Process: Embossing

SAINT JAMES agricole rums, FAMOUS all over the world for their exceptional quality, are the fruit of a long history of passion, know-how and expertise which started in 1765. Elaborated from fresh pure sugarcane juice, SAINT JAMES rums have been accredited the Martinique A.O.C. which ensures their quality and their intimate link with the planting terroir.

Our mission was to create a packaging common to the three different SAINT JAMES references. The packaging size was adapted to the Long Island 70 cl. Â This packaging had to value the SAINT JAMES brand and to drive purchase intent across the various distribution networks: GMS, Wine merchants, Export (Duty-free).
We created a sober packaging following the codes of the luxury sector, with a window in the box which lets the front label of the brand readable. The graphics are consistent with the packaging of the 3 decanters so as to create a range effect. The window was designed shifted and overflowing on the side of the packaging to give an identity to the packaging and emphasize the shape of the bottle.

Design: 43oz.com - Design Studio
Creative Director: Alex Kodimsky
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Sunstone Alehouse
Location: Chisinau, Moldova
Packaging Contents: Beer
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass bottle, Paper Label
Printing Process: Digital printing

Experimentation, innovation, exploration of new ideas, and the constant search for sources of inspiration - this is what defines modern craft brewing. And it’s no wonder that the packaging design for products in this category tends to feature vivid and unusual solutions. So when our own “studio” brewer Sunstone Alehouse, with whom we’re working right since the beginning of 43oz, planned another collaboration beer with the Romanian brewery Three Happy Brewers, we knew well that the label design had to be as bright and special as the beer itself.

Tea Muppets is a British Pale Ale brewed with herbal tea that is used in the production of the famous Transnistrian vermouth “Buket Moldavii”. However, instead of depicting such a complex concept literally, we’ve decided to reflect the spirit of a collaboration between two local breweries by placing their names in two distinct parts of the label. And while the design in principle is rather minimalistic, thanks to using a vivid color scheme and special fonts we’ve managed to create a rather bright and memorable composition that communicates the idea of a collaborative product manufactured by two craft breweries.

Far from ordinary: The Collaborators create new cold brew coffee brand Far Side

The Collaborators have created a new brand, packaging and website for cold brew coffee Far Side. The UK cold brew category is currently coasting with several faddish and unauthentic brands failing to capture the nation’s imagination. The Collaborators were asked to create a stand-out brand with real credentials and a connection with a young target audience. Based on the positioning ‘More than a cup’ designs evoke the origins of the exotic beans from Rwanda and Peru and the tastes of these regions conjured up by every sip. Illustrations were hand-drawn in-house and focus on the culture, nature and ingredients of Rwanda and Peru colliding to take you on your first step to the Far Side with just one glance of the bottle. The spirit of this eclectic style was supported with a playful and expressive tone of voice and a website where the vibrant colours and mysterious muted backgrounds of the packaging played out perfectly.

Design: ADDA Studio
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Weingut Knauß
Location: Stuttgart, Germany
Packaging Contents: Wine
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass bottle, Fine Label Paper
Printing Process: Offset Printing, Foil Stamping

Weingut Knauß – We were able to act out our love for wining and designing when it came to the vineyard Weingut Knauß. We designed a logo to match the simple architectural design of the new concrete building with its straight wood paneling, thus showing the essence not only of the vineyard but also the rows of vine and the winemaker Andreas Knauß. The manuscript type developed especially for this purpose is a reference to the craftsmanship and love for winemaking - unmistakable, individual and authentic. This is also evident in the choice of materials; the labels have a lined and strutted appearance, just as the rows of vine. The unique label is refined even more in some varieties with Gun Metal foil blocking. Thanks to the photographs on the printed media, one gets a real feel for the materials. Wood, concrete or mash - the vineyard shows its openness and sends a clear message: this is true craftsmanship!

The small brine pot is a brine product brand of beef jerky in Xi'an, Shaanxi. In order to make the product taste better, in the production of beef jerky, a small pot was selected for brine. Because of this, the brand is named "small brine pot". Unfortunately, small brine pot has such advantages that they can not be seen as a matter of course. Project Type: Concept
Location: Taipei, Taiwan
Packaging Contents: Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Aluminum
Printing Process: Digital printing

At restaurants, nightclubs, and karaoke bars, we often drink canned beverages. The problem is when there are lots of identical cans belonging to different people, so we cannot tell whose can is whose.

BUBBLE is an identifiable beverage can design solution. It works by enabling the consumer to mark their can with a unique 16-digit code. For example, the code might be their birthdate and gender. By pressing in the raised bubbles on the aluminum can, the code is set and the bubbles cannot be unpressed. This design concept won the 2018 Design Mark at Taiwan's Golden Pin Concept Design Award.

Pasol Paco Bakery

Design: Innatives
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Pasol Paco
Location: Poland
Packaging Contents: Bread
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Foil
Printing Process: Flexography

Pasol Paco is a family-owned Polish bakery founded over 20 years ago, that sales their amazing bread through retail stores. Lately, the brand started feeling dated and its brand identity system couldn’t support constantly growing product portfolio.

The company needed to redefine the brand proposition and differentiate itself from the competition. We have spent countless hours observing and talking to consumers, analysing their knowledge of the category, habits and daily rituals. What we have discovered shocked Pasol! Most consumers identified their favourite bread on the shelf by colour. People we have interviewed couldn’t recall the brand name, even though some were buying the same product for over 10 years! Those who have been able to name the company always referred to the bakery as Pasol. Second key information we have found out was that consumers are suspicious of bread that are covered by packaging as they think that producer is hiding a poor quality behind its graphics.

Those key insights have been reflected in the new brand identity. The brand name has been changed to Pasol, logotype revamped to reflect a more natural, honest approach. New packaging design system has been designed in a way to support the way consumers look for a bread on the shelf. Designers kept original colour coding for a portfolio but decided on using more vibrant colours that evoke vitality and energy and allow for packaging to stand out on the shelf. Labels were created in a way that can be easily adapted into different packaging sizes and formats.

Design: the Labelmaker
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Orbalia Winery
Location: Varna, Bulgaria
Packaging Contents: Red wine
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass bottle
Printing Process: Flexography, Screen printing, Foil stamping, Silk Foil printing

Orbelia is a small family-run winery located in one of the most interesting wine regions of Bulgaria – Struma Valley. This is also the home of famous Melnik 55 – one of the most interesting indigenous grape varieties that is one of the foundations of modern Bulgarian wine industry.

Orbelia has great affiliation for local varieties and Melnik 55 is no exception. Furthermore – this particular wine is probably the latest gem in their diverse portfolio. They did only 897 bottles and sent me three of them, so I am having right now a rare treasure in my hands.

I knew this from our first talk and I was really convinced we should stick to classic label design but use different attractive bottle. This is how I spotted the Bourgogne Antik by Saverglass.

Very solid, yet looking elegant, this bottle could not be missed on the shelf. It also has very well designed conical part that was perfect place for my new label design.

The Project
I used very elegant serif typeface for the Orbelia brand and overprinted it with transparent varnish. The logo above is done with two layers – bottom one is for the logo solid silhouette stamped with copper hot foil and the top one is for the logo artwork printed with silk-foil with good level of embossing. Playing with matt and glossy materials from same color is something that I do very often, and I really love the result.

The label has classic shape with rounded corners. I decided to use matrix typeface with dots to print the vintage year in the background behind the variety and thus make the design more interesting with a touch of modernity.

The Estate Reserve text is stamped with copper hot foil and is hand-lettered by me on IPad Pro.

Our classic approach in this wine bottle design ended with red wax to seal the top of the bottle. The wax is a bit transparent which makes the whole packaging more natural and intriguing. The wine is distributed in custom carton box for 3 bottles.
