The company Artelicor entrusts us with the creation of the logo and label design of the range of its five liqueurs. A brand of premium craft elaboration liquors located in San Antonio de Requena (Valencia), born with the spirit of recovering the tradition of making natural liquors. As the initial phase of the branding project, we designed the logo-brand of the liquor company, distinguishing its initials with classic features aimed at reflecting the brand's premium spirit. In the second phase, inspired by the union of art and liquor, the designer enhances the brand through a distinctive illustration with a color code based on flavor ... an "Explosion of color" as an analogy of the nuances of flavor found in each product merges around the highlighted brand with a silver stamping.

Cannabis products have multiple levels of mood/effect, flavor, and product composition. To determine the best way to design for these variables, we collaborated with the client to learn about their production methods and brand goals. One of Skunk Factory’s primary goals was to elevate their packaging to highlight the product quality. We developed the base packaging using a sleek, uncoated black paper stock with a palette of black, white, and metallic silver. For the flavor indicator, we were inspired by caution tape.

Design: the Labelmaker
Photo: Jordan Jelev
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Villa Melnik
Location: Varna, Bulgaria
Packaging Contents: Wine
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass
Printing Process: Offset Printing, Hot Foil Stamping, Raised Varnish

The Legacy
Aplauz is the premium wine brand by Villa Melnik. At the top of the brand row stands Aplauz Premium Reserve – the best of the whole range. They used the same wine label design for all wines and needed to visually separate the top level from the rest of the products. The old label was printed on very fine textured paper in classic rectangular shape. The brand name Aplauz was positioned at the center of the label and stamped with gold hot-foil.

The background was printed in beautiful dark blue color featuring low contrast drawing of native Melnik landscape. At the top of the label was Villa Melnik’s family crest stamped with gold hot foil. The bottom part was reserved for variety, vintage and all other texts that specify important info about the product. The bottle was one of the tallest on the shelf – some 330 mm high. Very elegant for a tapered one.

The Goal
The goal was clear but not simple & easy at all – I was commissioned to create a brand new design for the Aplauz Premium Reserve wines only and make it completely different from the rest of the wines inside the range while preserving all info from the existing front label.

Oreo Package Redesign (Student Project)

$

Design: Selina Hilger
Project Type: Student Project
School: Vancouver Island University
Course: Packaging Design
Tutor: Nancy Pagé
Location: Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada
Packaging Contents: Oreo Cookies

Challenge: The challenge I faced with the Oreo package re-design was creating a product that is 100% recyclable and to get rid of the plastic. The original Oreo package I think is also uninspiring and didn’t do anything to show the creativity and the long life of the brand.

Approach: I would like to improve the package with my redesign in order to be more ecologically responsible, for which I would like to do without plastic and fall back on 100% recycled paper. I want my Audience to perceive Oreo as a high-quality product that gives them pleasure and the feeling they did something good for themselves and others.

Outcome: My final package re-design met all the goals that I set out to. I created a box that is in a hexagonal shape. The Oreo Cookies are stacked in three rows with 9 cookies each. My paper choice has the feel of being environmentally aware which I hope will remind consumers to be the same and feel good with it. The principle of my re-design is a flap on one side that can be pulled off to loosen the lid, which is then rotatable. That way you can get to the first row of cookies. If you turn it once more, the packaging is closed again. After the next turn, you reach the next row.

The Design I created was a lot of fun, I had 6 sides to design plus the top of the package. I decided to use the style of the Oreos “Wonderfill“ campaign. Oreo has been around for over 100 years now, which makes the cookie kind of a cult, that’s why I wanted the Design to look a bit old school.
I had difficulties with the conversion of the revolving lid and the attachment of the interior part to this, in which the cookies are.
After all, I’m happy with my package re-design and I hope what I’ve made elevates the brand and aligns better to their target audience.

Vigno: Limited Edition Carignan Wine

Agency: DAf
Designer: Bruno Canales
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Odfjell Vineyards
Location: Santiago, Chile
Packaging Contents: Wine
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass bottle
Printing Process: Black foil, Metallic ink, Embossing

Organic, biodynamic winery Odfjell approached DAf to design new packaging for its Carignan wine, Vigno. This is a premium wine created from a traditional grape variety previously overlooked by both the wine industry and consumers alike. The name Vigno is a direct reference to the association “Vignadores de Carignan”, set up to promote this little-used variety.

To reflect Vigno’s first class winemaking, we worked with the concept of the rebirth of Carignan, employing a minimalist style of black on black wherein the letters that spell “Vignadores” (a play on words blending “vintner” with “Carignan”) are inscribed on the label, curling and arching across it.

This, partnered with the inclusion of denomination of origin and individual bottle number of only 1,000 bottles elaborated, gives Odfjell’s Vigno a distinctively modern, premium look.

Toronto-based creative agency Bob’s Your Uncle has partnered with Second Harvest, the largest charitable organization in Canada, to create a limited-edition beer made from bread. The resulting beer, called “Been a Slice,” is a new and unexpected way to raise awareness for the charitable organization. How does a beer help bring the concept of food rescue to life? By taking bread approaching its best before date and transforming it into a delicious beer. Been a Slice shows that good food that’s unwanted can be repurposed instead of wasted. It’s beer “back from the bread.”
