The origin of the name Costa del Mulino is to be traced in the past, when there were water mills in the stretch of the Costa dei trabocchi, an area where there are several vineyards in the cellar. For the new course, Dispenser reinterprets the mill wheel graphics in combination with a game of punches and strong metallic foils. Design: Kingdom & Sparrow
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Location: Falmouth
Packaging Contents: Beer
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Aluminium

We’re pleased to introduce Super 8, our very own studio beer. You might remember Overboard from last year (if not have a scroll through our website portfolio to check it out). For 2018 we’ve gone with a different design style - but something that we had just as much fun with - to celebrate our special Kingdom & Sparrow family, a talented team of 8! We’ve used an energetic, vibrant design and a retro style that nods to the Cornish surf culture surrounding us. Octopus tentacles represent the integrated, collaborative nature of our studio (keeping it nautical!) as well as being a great symbol of 8, of course. On each tentacle is a hand-drawn object that’s personal to each individual member of the team.

Super 8 was brewed and canned by our long-standing clients and beer buddies, Electric Bear Brewing Co in Bath.

Design: Robot Food
Project Type: Christmas promotional gift
Location: Leeds, UK
Packaging Contents: Craft Beer
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Aluminium cans

As it’s told, three kings bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh followed a star that led to a prophecy. This year creative studio Robot Food had their own epiphany, to brew a gift in collaboration with clients and Kings of Craft, Northern Monk Brew Co.

In partnership with Northern Monk, who also happen to run the nearest tap room, Robot Food decided to warm the hearts and bellies of their loved ones with three delicious beers. The collaboration comes naturally after the pair first worked together on a highly successful Crowdcube campaign that saw Northern Monk raise over £1.5 mill in just over a week. In regards to what comes next, all will be revealed in early 2019.

Robot Food quite literally nipped across the road, donned their brewing caps and buddied up with the wise Monks to create three beers brewed in dedication to each kingly gift. Together, the collection is a detailed triptych illustrating their journeys to Bethlehem.

Each can illustration pulls from the mythical legends behind the king’s stories. Melchior, carrying Gold, traverses the glistening desert plains of Arabia. Caspar begins his journey through the sunlit streets of the ancient city of Tarsus, with Frankincense. While Myrrh is sourced from the mountainous regions of East Africa by Balthasar.

Robot Food give a huge shout out to Northern Monk, who guided them on their beer journey, from brewing to canning. With thanks to Labmak.co.uk, who brought the beautiful foiled labels to life.

They say the best things come in threes, Robot Food’s gold, frankincense and myrrh are no exception and are bound to be much more delicious than the real deal.

Agency: Barceló Estudio
Graphic and creative designers: Xisco Barceló, Estel Alcaraz
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Bioreshop
Location: Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Packaging Contents: Cleaning products
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Plastic bottles

Bioreshop is a group of labels made for cleaning products which can be refilled thanks to their reusable container. It’s a project about sustainability, reducing plastic waste and raising awareness amongst consumers.

The main goal was to create a dynamic and groundbreaking graphic concept with playful aesthetics that engaged with users. The b-shaped geometrical logotype works as a container. This shape comes in several patterns for each different product. There is a parallelism between the outside and the inside, and also between container and product. Patterns and how to identify them: home products go with a geometrical pattern that varies through lively colours. Body products are identified by monochromatic geometrical patterns. And lastly, industrial products are represented with colour blocks and no pattern.

All the product range is coherent and creates a visual harmony while projecting an engaging and updated view on sustainability.

Design: MAAD Creatives
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Location: Singapore
Packaging Contents: Chinese New Year Red Packet
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Paper
Printing Process: Offset printing, gold hotstamp, die-cut

Design is a subjective wolf in an objective sheep’s clothing. As much as we try to rationalise what makes design good, consumers sometimes show us another door. The design world is not what it is as one seldom creates what was initially intended. We think we know what’s best, but art never knows, and science rarely does either.

Even as MAAD infuses a little bit of themselves into their commissioned work, the designs are ultimately still a reflection of the brand they sought to sell. Starting every project out of the box, “nature’s forces” tend to steer towards the tried and true. Only through internal creation are they able to produce a clearer reflection of themselves – an image pushed by exploration, experimentation and teamwork. And thus, MAAD continues its annual tradition of producing its own red packet design for the third year running. Like caged chickens going free-range, their imagination brings them to places rarely explored.

Task: to surprise company customers by emotion-evoking Christmas present.

Solution: Christmas calendar was created by company creative team.

Design: HAJOK Design
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Client: Allos Hof-Manufaktur
Location: Germany
Packaging Contents: Muesli, Spreads, Pesto
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Glass jar, Plastic pouch

From the development of new brand positioning, a corporate slogan and a new logo through to packaging design development - HAJOK Design provided comprehensive support to Tartex leading up to the launch of its products in drugstores across Germany.

The transformation of the organic food sector in Germany is fully under way. With a great deal of passion and belief in a sustainable vegetarian lifestyle, the Tartex range has been extended over the years and today it includes many delicious products. These range from hearty vegetable spreads and pesto to various muesli varieties, all of which make the vegetarian’s heart beat faster. HAJOK emphasizes this attitude with the introduction of the “Vegetarian Food Lover” tagline, which is closely linked to the logo.

The brief was to develop a desirable packaging design that should appeal to an open-minded, urbane and creative target group which does not see food as simply nutritional intake. At the same time, the “Vegetarian Food Lover” tagline had to be conveyed with uncomplicated, cheerful and handmade branding. A uniform brand image and a contemporary logo was necessary to clearly set the diverse product range apart from other organic products on the shelf.

The new Tartex logo retains the familiar colour scheme, now enriched with small icons in different shades of green which playfully communicate the “Vegetarian Food Lover” message. Colourful illustrations radially frame the food images, portraying them in a natural, yet focused and more informal way. The paper texture in the background, the handwritten-style typography and the powerful colours of the different varieties give the design a naturally cheerful look.

Design: Daria Kalenchuk
Project Type: Produced, Commercial Work
Location: Moscow, Russia
Packaging Contents: Oil, cereals, salt, jam, seed paste
Packaging Substrate / Materials: Cardboard, glass, paper
Printing Process: Digital printing

In Russia there are lot of small regional manufacturers of unique foods, such as spelt from Altai, berries from Karelia, urbech (seed paste) from Dagestan, Siberian herbs and others. But they all have one common problem: it’s difficult for them to go to the market with just one product. So my client united all these manufacturers under one brand to help them launch and develop further. My task was to reflect modernity and traditions, because of authentic nature of these foods.

The main idea is a gastronomic journey to different regions of Russia without leaving home. It is expressed through photos of landscapes. To reflect connection with traditions, the logo was stylized with the old Russian ligature. Not only consumers take journeys, but foods as well. They travel from the place of growth to the consumer’s dining table. That's information about the product is displayed in the post stamps shaped fields.

The brand name Moi Gostinci is translated from Russian language like "gifts, that I brought from far away". Gostinci—is an old archaic Russian word had been used long time ago.
